New Minibus Out and About

The Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) has recently taken delivery of a new minibus.

SRSB operates 3 minibuses from our Activities Centre and one from our residential care home, Cairn Home.

Our minibuses, specially adapted to suit the needs of blind and partially sighted people, are a lifeline to many clients, for whom transport is a huge challenge.

Our drivers pick clients up from their homes around the city, bring them into the Activities Centre each day, then take them home afterwards. We also use our minibuses for social evenings and for other trips and activities, such as the Swimming Group every Thursday, and our Culture Club visits.

The new vehicle is another Mercedes, supplied by Northside Truck and Van, custom converted by Minibus Options and sign written by Burkett QuickSign. We were very fortunate to secure full funding for this vehicle through the Department of Transport’s “Community Transport Minibus Fund”.

Simon from Northside Truck and Van commented “Northside Truck & Van Ltd have been supplying vehicles to SRSB for several years and it has always been a pleasure to be involved and work with them and we hope to continue to in the future.”

Fred James from Minibus Options added “It is a pleasure to supply Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind with another vehicle, which will help them continue to make a positive impact on their local community.”

Dennis, the driver of the new bus, and all his passengers are delighted with the new vehicle. He is pictured here with Simon Lonsdale from Northside Truck and Van and Nigel Povey from Minibus Options, along with Irene, one of SRSB’s clients.
