Testimonials from Student Supporters

Quote from Jess from the University of Sheffield who came with her group 'For the Love of Books' to read to our clients

"I would just like to say a massive thank you to you and the rest of your team for being so accommodating and lovely to For The Love of Books. It really meant a lot to us to be able to come and work with you, and I know the volunteers got a lot out of the event. We really enjoyed coming down to SRSB and it is definitely something I think the group would like to do again in the future. I really hope the participants enjoyed themselves!"

Quote from Jamie, Charities Officer in 2015/16 on the University of Sheffield Bummit Committee

Bummit certainly is a challenge – it can test your determination, stamina and resolve. But more importantly it can challenge your perceptions of the world. It will teach you that ultimately the world is full of kindness and generosity, whether it’s an elderly lady dropping some coins in your bucket on Fargate or a young student driving you a hundred miles out of his way in Germany. Bummit exists to help the communities of Sheffield and South Yorkshire in overcoming some of their own challenges. This is why supporting the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind, along with our other charities, has been such a privilege this year.”

Bummit is a charity hitch hike, which raises funds for several charities by hitchhiking from Sheffield to a different location each year. Since it began back in 2003 thousands students have taken part and hundreds of thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities in South Yorkshire. We have also been supported by the fundraising of other societies in the past.

Quote from Adam who supported SRSB during his time at the University of Sheffield:

“Thank you for letting me be part of your exciting fundraising throughout my time at Sheffield. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience and wish you all the best for the future. Keep up the good work and good luck for future fundraisers!"
