Public transport service changes - from Saturday 28 August 2021

There will be changes to bus services in South Yorkshire, from the weekend of Saturday 28 August 2021.

What changes are being made to bus services in South Yorkshire?

Changes will be made to a number of services in South Yorkshire, which include:

  • a temporary reduction in frequency to services 15/15a, 66 and 81/82 in Doncaster, from every 10 minutes to every 15 minutes; and service 55/56 from every 15 minutes to 20 minutes, to help manage national staff shortages affecting the region
  • timetable changes to improve punctuality and reinstate school journeys. As per pre-COVID operations, some journeys will provide school trips rather than local bus journeys
  • a temporary retention of summer timetables for services 1, 7/8/8a, 24/25, 83/83a, 88, 52/52a and 120 in Sheffield to help manage a national issue of staff shortages affecting the region.

New timetables have been added to travelsouthyorkshire.com/servicechanges

How is this being communicated to customers?

Operators are keeping customers up to date via their websites and social media channels.

Travel information and advice

Whilst Government Covid restrictions have lifted, we are still advising people to take some simple steps so that everyone can use public transport as safely as possible.

A face covering must be worn in interchanges and stations, unless exempt. Customers who do not wear a face covering in an interchange and do not have a valid exemption will be advised to wear one.

We are strongly encouraging people to follow Government guidance, that expects and recommends that people wear face coverings in crowded areas, such as onboard public transport.

We want to reassure people that using public transport is a safe and clean option and they can feel confident using buses, trams and trains. We have worked hard, with operators, to ensure people can travel as safely as possible. We will continue to undertake enhanced cleaning in our interchanges and operators are doing so on vehicle to minimise the risk of transmission from surfaces and touch points, as well as improved ventilation and air flow, to help everyone in South Yorkshire travel safely.

Customers should use contactless payments or mobile tickets where possible; should continue to wash and sanitise their hands and if they feel unwell, stay at home or get a test if they develop symptoms.

Passengers are encouraged to plan ahead, avoid travelling on busy routes or during busy periods, and walk and cycle where possible.

How can you help?

Passengers are being urged to check before they travel, so it would be appreciated if you are travelling by public transport, please plan your journey ahead using the up to date timetables on the operators’ websites or via www.travelsouthyorkshire.com/servicechanges.
