Travel South Yorkshire Update

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Executive have asked us to share this update about Travel South Yorkshire:

New freephone Traveline number

The Traveline telephone number is being replaced by a new freephone number:

0800 952 0002.

Why is this change taking place?

Not everyone has access to inclusive calls on mobile phones, meaning that the cost of calling Traveline could be prohibitive for a disproportionate amount of bus users. This especially affects Pay-As-You-Go users, who tend to be those on lower incomes, and can be a barrier to using public transport effectively.

By replacing the current 01709 51 51 51 phone number with the freephone number 0800 952 0002 we are making it free for everyone who wants to contact us by phone.

How is this being communicated to the community?

We are gradually updating our printed materials with the new 0800 number and the TSY website has already been updated to reflect this change. We’re also notifying customers in our monthly newsletter and through our social media channels.

The 01709 51 51 51 number will be retained as a non-advertised legacy number to enable a seamless transition to the new number and prevent 3rd party or fraudulent use of the old number. This will also ensure that anyone unaware of the change can still contact us.

The freephone number has been introduced to make our services more accessible to anyone living in, working in or visiting the region, and that 0800 numbers are free to call from all landlines and mobiles, including Pay-As-You-Go.
