Our Team. Staff Profiles.

Photo of Kate at the hospital Well, we are missing our team during the lockdown, that’s for sure. So we are sure our clients are too. Here is a little reminder of what our team members are usually doing when not under house arrest. We are going to feature members of the team each week...

Kate job shares the role of Eye Clinic Liaison Officer (ECLO) in Sheffield. The ECLOs are a point of contact at the hospital to provide information and advice to blind and partially sighted people, family members and carers at the time they are given a diagnosis about their sight loss.
They provide emotional support and raise awareness of the services available to empower visually impaired people to make informed choices to maintain and develop their independence. Without this post being in place, patients and their families could be left reeling from a diagnosis they have been given and unsure where to turn, many people likening this diagnosis to bereavement. At this point, they can feel overwhelmed and potentially miss information that is critical for their future wellbeing. This link ensures that people are directed to our charity (SRSB) and supported through a difficult time as well as referrals to other relevant agencies.

Kate joined us in 2017 and is very thorough in her work, and a very reassuring and gentle presence, which is critical for people at this point in their sight loss journey.
