For our hearing impaired clients, here is the typed message:
My name is Joanne, and I am the Deputy General Manager of the Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind and Rotherham Sight & Sound, supporting people with sight or hearing loss locally.
Our charity, and our clients, have had a very challenging time as a result of the lockdown, which has brought many changes to our vital services. But even though our centres in Sheffield and Rotherham have had to close for now, our priority remains the same: the welfare of our clients.
We are very aware of how critical our usual services are to our clients’ wellbeing. Not only do we support them with the life changing impact of sight, or hearing loss, but we also provide a wide range of services to help with practicalities, offer social activities, emotional and peer support through groups that enable people to accept and adapt to their condition.
When the lockdown began, we had to close a number of our services, and furlough most staff. However, we quickly established a shopping and medication delivery service kept our phones open, and began to expand calls to clients.
It has not been an easy time, adapting to different methods of working, at the same time as many of our fundraising events and collections being cancelled or postponed…and our work with other supporters limited. Unfortunately this has created an income shortfall.
We need to continue the work we are doing, look at developing other ways of operating in the short term, and resume our services in the long term.
But we need the support of our local community.
Your donation, large or small, would be very much appreciated.
