South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive have asked us to share this update:

Supertram essential rail replacement works near Granville Road – Sunday 3 April 2022

South Yorkshire Supertram Limited (SYSL) is planning to carry out essential rail replacement works on sections of track where they cross over Granville Road.

These works form part of their ongoing maintenance programme and are critical to extend the lifespan of the tram network and maintain the reliable, comfortable and safe level of service customers have come to expect.

The rail replacement works are scheduled to take place on Sunday 3 April and will affect Blue and Purple Route tram services. VolkerRail, the contractor carrying on the works on behalf of SYSL will also carry out preparation works over four consecutive nights (between the hours of 23:30 and 05:00 each night) commencing on the evening of Monday 28 March until Friday 1 April but these works will not impact on tram services.

Letters have been sent to local residents and businesses around the affected work areas notifying them of the proposed works and any disruptions they may cause.

How will the works affect tram services?

On Sunday 3 April trams will operate as follows:

  • Blue Route tram services will operate between Sheffield Station and Malin Bridge only. Granville Road/The Sheffield College, Park Grange Croft, Park Grange, Arbourthorne Road, Spring Lane, Manor Top, Hollinsend, Gleadless Townend, White Lane, Birley Lane, Birley Moor Road, Hackenthorpe, Donetsk Way, Moss Way, Crystal Peaks, Beighton/Drakehouse Lane, Waterthorpe, Westfield and Halfway tram stops will not be served.
  • Purple Route tram services will not operate.
  • Yellow Route and Tram Train services are not affected and will operate as normal.

Alternative bus services and ticket acceptance

  • Customers travelling between Halfway, Manor Top and city can use Stagecoach service 120.
  • Customers travelling between Herdings Park, White Lane, Gleadless Townend and Hollinsend Road can use First bus services in those areas.

Valid tram tickets will be accepted on Stagecoach service 120 and on First bus services operating in the Herdings Park, White Lane, Gleadless Townend and Hollinsend Road areas.

How is this being communicated to customer?

Supertram is advising customers of the disruption to services via their website https://www.stagecoachbus.com/news/yorkshire/2022/march-2022/engineering-works-on-sunday-3-april and on Twitter at @SCSupertram, which we will retweet on our @TSYalerts Twitter feed. They have also posted Customer Notices at affected tram stops.

Up to date bus timetables and journey planning tools are available at www.travelsouthyorkshire.com.

In the first instance it is recommended that customers check service availability via the above channels before they travel and make alternative arrangements where required.

Alternatively, customers who do not have access to the internet or social media can call Traveline on 01709 51 51 51 for the latest information.

How can you help?

It would be appreciated if you could please advise customers planning to travel by tram on Sunday 3 April to make alternative arrangements, check before they travel and to be prepared for longer journey times.
