“Hi, I’m Alison and I joined SRSB in March this year as a part time Finance Assistant. I’ve worked for a number of charities in the past, and I currently also run an e-bay business with my husband. I already knew of SRSB as my Grandma used to go to a weekly coffee morning, so I knew when I saw the role advertised that it was an opportunity I didn’t want to miss.

Over the past 6 months I’ve enjoyed getting to know more about the charity, working alongside the fantastic team of staff and volunteers and meeting some of the clients. During my first few months I attended the Visual Impairment Awareness training and soon after put the skills we learnt into practice at Go Ape as a sighted guide – this was both terrifying and exhilarating and definitely an experience to remember!
My role at SRSB is all about the money! We work away behind the scenes to ensure the finances are kept up to date, we keep track of donations, count the money from fundraising activities such as raffles and sponsored events and ensure volunteers are re-imbursed for expenses. All of the home collection boxes, store collection buckets and the elephant collection tins come back to us and it’s great to see how much money is raised to support the charity and also how this money is then used in the different projects and services we offer.”
