We are passing on this information about an exhibition in Sheffield that may be of interest to our clients, as visitors are invited to handle, touch and feel the artwork.
“These repeated vessel shapes emerged from a piece of plastic debris. Making them brought me an inexplicable sense of release and I vowed to make one a day. While doing so, I reflected on my own life and the lives of those making dangerous journeys in search of sanctuary.”
Cath Acons presents Voyages, a new installation of over 4,000 individual paper vessel forms. Their boat-like shapes encourage us to think about travel, escape, danger, and freedom. Where are we going, and what are we leaving behind?
Made with sound artist Julia Schauerman, the accompanying soundscape explores Cath’s thoughts and feelings while creating the work. For Cath, her studio is a refuge where she can reflect, repair and plan for future voyages.
Visitors are invited to handle, touch and feel the artwork. Please do so gently.
There is also an In Conversation with Cath Acons & Julia Schauerman event:
Saturday 18th March 2023, 2pm to 3pm. Free entry.

Location & access
The building is the former South Yorkshire Transport office in Castlegate, where many Sheffield residents would have one day purchased their bus passes. It sits on the perimeter of what used to be the old Castle Market.
The gallery is located at the front of the building, at street level. There is no step or incline to enter the gallery and it has a wide automatic door. There is a disabled WC on the ground floor, close to the gallery, which visitors can be shown to.
