Social work students come from both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, they are with us for up to 6 months; depending on the placement.  Placements are arranged by the Universities and overseen by them.   We are the WBA (work based assessor) the University provide the (OSA) off site assessor.

For students to gain a complete overview of what we do and all our services they begin by shadowing all staff in their various roles, both in and out of the Centre, this enables them to work alongside staff to support our clients. 

By the time the students have finished their placement with us they have immense knowledge about blind and partially sighted people – children and adults, the services we deliver and how they can build on the knowledge and skills when they are qualified and working with people who are blind or partially sighted.
