Alan Thorpe

Alan is one of the few teachers with qualifications for teaching Braille in South Yorkshire. Having worked for SRSB for a number of years he left in 2009 to establish his own business, EYECAN, teaching Braille and technology in and around the county. Alan is himself visually impaired and has read Braille for more than 30 years, so his experience is invaluable and we are fortunate that he has started to teach Braille on a regular basis at SRSB. Alan worked with us to establish this training following the withdrawal in 2009 of statutory funding for braille classes in formal adult education establishments.

Alan is a positive role model and believes that visual impairment shouldn’t stop people from achieving what they want, only that you have to overcome a few limitations.
