Charles Bonnet Awareness Day 16/11/2017

Photograph of how a visual disruption may appear

Thursday 16th November 2017. 11am to 3pm

Sheffield Royal Society for the Blind (SRSB) Mappin St, Sheffield.
and Rotherham Sight & Sound Ship Hill, Rotherham.

We will be recognising the first national awareness day for Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS) on Thursday 16th November. There will be an information desk in both our Sheffield Centre and in our Rotherham Centre.

CBS can be a worrying side effect of sight loss where the brain tries to compensate for not seeing by creating silent visual hallucinations (the picture above is a representation of how a visual disturbance may appear). These visions vary, with some people seeing miniature people, flowers, patterns and other things that aren’t really there.

If anyone thinks they, or someone they know, may have this condition, they can pop in to pick up some information. The charity also welcomes anyone who has an interest in finding out more about CBS. Mike, who attends the CBS group at SRSB and is an active volunteer, has first hand  experience of this condition and will be there to chat to people if they wish.

SRSB has run a CBS Support Group at their centre for nearly 15 years and if anyone is interested in attending the group please get in touch with SRSB on 0114 272 2757
